A Guide on Where to Put Cremation Urns in Your Home

If you’re one of the rising numbers of people embracing cremation, one of the things you may consider is where to put the cremation urns or keepsake ashes urns of your departed loved ones in your home.

Knowing where to put the urns is so important because it is not only a gesture of honouring and remembering our loved ones, but we also want to make sure that the remains are kept safe.

Here are the things you must consider before you identify the spot you want to put the urn in your home.

1. Consider the effect the urn will make.

Even if cremation is getting more popular, there are still so many people who are not used to this or are still new to this idea. This may cause them to have an unsettling reaction if they see an urn. If you want to put this in an area that is common to your visitors but don’t want to draw too much attention to it, you can go for decorative urns. These urns are subtle, and your visitors won’t even know they are urns. You can display this in your living room or in any plain sight.

However, if you also want a bold memorial display, so people can see how you honour your loved one, you can always create a distinct memorial spot for your departed loved one. When it comes to the kind of urn to use, you can go for the traditional or classic one. In that memorial spot, you can include photos and other keepsakes. You can find a spot in any plain sight from your home.

If you don’t want anyone to see your memorial display for your loved one but want to keep things private, you can always choose a room to display the urn for ashes. You can display this in your personal room, in your den, or office.

2. Understand why you chose that spot.

If you are still confused about where to display your loved one’s cremation urn, maybe it will help you decide if you know the reason you chose that certain spot. Do you want to see it all the time or do you find it more special to only see it when you need time to be alone?

Here are the different spots you can choose from to help you decide.

a. Living room

This is a central location where tables and shelves are also usually displayed. You can simply find a place for your urn on those tables or shelves. Just make sure that it is safe and secured especially when you have kids around.

b. Family room/den

If you want a more private area so you won’t worry about your visitors’ reaction, this is a perfect spot to display the urn for cremation.

c. Bedroom

This is one of the most common options because you can simply put the urn on your bedside table, dresser, or shelf.

d. Office

This is also a perfect spot for your urn because you can easily display it on your desk, bookshelf, or case.

e. Kitchen

The kitchen is not so much of a common place for your urn but is still a good option especially if you spend a lot of time there or if it is spacious. You just make sure you’ve picked a perfect spot that is, again, safe and secured. These are areas away from heat or potential mess from the stove, sink, and food.
