Can I Mail Urns for Cremation?

There are unpredictable moments in our lives that we can't control, and we won't be able to stop, like how someone's life will end. As much as we want to spend the rest of our lives with them, there are uncertainties in life that we can't predict. So what we can do is live at the moment. And these have been the struggle of most families who have loved ones who work and live abroad. When someone in their family who works overseas passes away, they will not be able to see them and have their body cremated and place them inside urns for cremation ashes instead to be easily transported back home.

Therefore, some of them no longer spend time and money for longer wake days, but they scatter the ashes in a particular place. They will prepare things before they spread the ashes. They will still need to attend to important matters for flying the remains back to their country. It will be less of a struggle for them if they will pass the remains in ashes. But as you may wonder, if they can transport the remains of a person, can they mail it to their family?

Many people wonder if it is possible to mail the urns of their loved ones if they order them from a different country or should they send the ashes of their loved ones first before the person would send the urns to them. Also, will it be secured and unharmed? Few of what is on their mind. And as for you, is thinking is possible for people to do that? We will go through that process as we go along on this topic.

There are many online stores where we can purchase the best urns for our loved ones. Unfortunately, some of these stores are based overseas, and it will cost money for us. But money will not be the issue if we want the best for our loved ones. Most of us worry about the only thing is if it is possible to mail the urns to us. And if so, are they able to be flawless, reasonable, and usable.

  • Shipping out urns with the ashes

Shipping urns along with the ashes is allowed. The sender or person who will travel along with the urns has the supplementary documents for checking in the airport. It is needed as the airport personnel will verify certain information for your baggage and the urn.

Some of the airlines add some special note on the urn or item to make sure it will be handled with care, and some need an advance notice before your boarding or days before your travel to make sure they will have a note on the item that you will be carrying. And it would be best if you made sure that the lid cove of the urn is sealed so there will be spillage inside the cargo.

  • Can I travel metallic urns?

For some reason, there is a policy that the urns should be non-metallic. It is because they need to scan the urn for security measures before they allow it to be added to cargo. And even if the urns have complete documents to have it transported via plane, you might have issues sending them in your country if it is made in metallic.

Understandably, some airports will allow metallic urns to be shipped for a particular case. But most of the time, they will hold you or the item because of this reason. Therefore, it is better to make an order within this standard.

  • Can I carry the urns instead of having them in the back storage?

Yes, you can. You can do that. Airports will allow you to hand-carry your item, especially if it is an urn. But it would be best if you assured them that it would not spill inside the plane and the lid is well secured and sealed. Most airlines will not allow urns or any container with ashes to be placed in a suitcase of oversized baggage and stored in the back part of the plane.

That is why it is safe if you will hand-carry the urns. Aside from securing it, you will not have a hard time thinking about what is happening if it is stored behind the plane's cabin. You know it will be home safe.

  • Can I put a personalized tag/ note on the urn?

You can do that. It will be more helpful if you will do that. Aside from the note from the airline, you can add your personalized tag to make sure it will not be taken away or placed somewhere you may forget it. Someone can send it to the information area to return to you.

Your tag on the urn will help you have a smooth flight from point A to B. It will give fewer worries.
